Together against climate change
Climate-friendly tourism requires one thing above all - the phasing out of fossil fuels.
At Lünersee, we have already taken concrete steps to switch to environmentally friendly alternatives in the area of energy. On the one hand, with a clear commitment to sustainable green electricity. On the other hand, with the help of state-of-the-art cable car technology and effective energy management. For your climate-conscious excursion at Lünersee!
Green electricity from sustainable energies
100 percent green electricity: The energy for our tourism location on Lake Luene comes from sustainable sources - you can rely on that! Best of all, the small hydropower plants and photovoltaic systems that supply us with electricity are located right next door. This means: sustainable electricity from Vorarlberg for Vorarlberg.

With this commitment, we support green electricity producers in the region, are less dependent on fossil fuels and significantly reduce our company's greenhouse gas emissions.
Nature in our beautiful country is happy, and we can offer you a sustainable excursion experience - without a guilty conscience!

Green electricity thanks to hydropower
Sustainable energy at 1970 metres above sea level: the Lünersee pumped storage power station makes it possible. How does it work? A pumping station brings water from a basin further down into Lake Lünersee and converts the non-storable electricity from solar and wind energy into hydropower. This water energy is stored sustainably in Lake Luene. Capacity: an impressive 78.3 million cubic metres.
When required, the water masses are then channelled 974 metres downhill back into the basin further downstream. The turbines driven by this process convert the kinetic energy back into electricity. The result: clean energy with the power of water.
Lünerseebahn project: sustainable cable car technology

Cable car equals small power station - that's the best way to describe the Lünerseebahn. The reason: recuperation, i.e. energy recovery.
And this is how it works: the single-track aerial tramway does not have a second gondola as a counterweight. The motor therefore has to take over the braking force for the descent. The result: the motor also acts as a generator and produces electricity - similar to an electric car.
38,000 kWh can be generated in just one summer season by operating the cable car. That's more than a third of the electricity needed to power the cable car. Pretty ingenious, isn't it? We think so too - and it's an important step towards climate protection.
vkw energy cockpit: state-of-the-art energy management

At Lünersee, we always try to keep energy consumption as low as possible. How do we achieve this? With a high-tech energy management system. The vkw energy cockpit keeps an eye on the entire tourist electricity consumption - from the lifts to the restaurants.
The advantage: the data is recorded every 15 minutes. In the event of high consumption in one segment, it is possible to react immediately and take countermeasures. This not only saves money and energy. It also significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Incidentally, the vkw energy cockpit serves as the basis for the ISO 50001 certification of our tourism location - a visible sign of our commitment to the environment.
